These 4 excellent cafes and restaurants are located within a short distance walk from the popular sightseeing spot of the Toshogu Shrine in Nikko.

Meiji-no Yakata 明治の館

This is a high-end cafe where you can either go for cake and coffee or a light meal. Their omurice (omelette on rice) is extremely popular here so give that a try if you're not sure what to have. The also serve Hamburg steak, soups, salads, and pasta dishes. The decor is classical European and the atmosphere is really relaxing. This is the perfect place to go to if your budget is around ¥2,000 to ¥4,000 for a meal.

Gyoshintei 尭心亭

You will absolutely love Gyoshintei if you are looking for a more traditional experience. It serves shojin ryori, which is a plant-based cuisine developed by Buddhist monks. Order a set meal and you get served many different foods in small plates. The restaurant is surrounded by greenery and actually resembles a temple. The place is incredibly peaceful. Expect to pay around ¥4,000 to ¥5,000.

LANCATLGUE CAFE NIKKO VORTEX AND QUEENIE

This is a fashionable cafe that is bright and relaxing. You can enjoy some healthy meals and sweets with coffee. You should try their yuba (tofu skin) pudding. You'll be amazed by how smooth and creamy it is.

Ueshima Coffee 上島珈琲

Ueshima Coffee House is a very popular coffee chain across Japan. It has a bit of an old Japanese cafe (喫茶店)atmosphere. It has a cozy, yet elegant atmosphere and you should definitely try their very popular coffee soft serve ice cream.
