5 Selected Places to try Delicious Tendon in Tokyo

Tendon is one of the traditional Japanese cuisines, a bowl of rice with tempura (fried seafood and vegetables) on top. There are numbers of restaurants where you can try tendon, so try the following places!

Kaneko Hannosuke(天丼 金子半之助)

If you are looking for authentic tendon experience, this is where you go! Just a minute walk from Mitsukoshi-mae station. People generally spend no more than ¥1,000 for both lunch and dinner. Since it is a very famous and popular restaurant, there will be a lot of people waiting in line especially during lunch time!

Dote no Iseya (土手の伊勢屋)

Established 128 years ago, this place serves traditional tendon! Their tempura is very crispy, and their thick sauce is very appetizing. This is the only branch in Japan, so if you are around Minowa station, you should definitely stop by! Around 10 minute walk from the station, this place is very popular and you might have to wait a little. So try to get there early! People generally spend ¥2,000~2,999.

Tempura Fukamachi (天ぷら 深町)

Just a minute walk from Kyobashi station, here you should try Michelin featured restaurant's Kakiage-don! Kakiage is similar to tempura, except that seafood and vegetables are cut into smaller pieces and mixed together, dipped in batter then fried. Their high-quality tempura is a must try food in Kyobashi! Their price for lunch is reasonable (around ¥2,000~2,999) so it is perfect to have lunch there.
Warning: sometimes it could be fully booked, so it might be a good idea to make a reservation beforehand!

Tenkuni (天國本店)

This place is a traditional tempura restaurant in Ginza, and you can have a satisfying tendon experience for just ¥1,100! This place is a must if you are in Ginza, so make sure to stop by! Just a 3 minute walk from Shinbashi station.

Tenkichiya (天吉屋 新宿店)

What's so special about their tendon is their famous "Ten-mabushi" - you can enjoy tendon in 3 ways at once! First you can enjoy tempura by itself, then tendon, and if you pour hot tea it will become Tendon-chazuke! This is their original menu, so you can only enjoy this here.
Plus, their original tendon, called "Tenkichi tendon", is also famous for its satisfying volume of topping tempura!
Just a 4 minute walk from Shinjuku station, west exit, so if you are in Shinjuku, you should definitely go and try their unique tendon!
