Try the Perfect Yakitori at Shibuya Morimoto

Yakitori is a staple snack at any given izakaya, but at Morimoto, open for more than 40 years, it is absolutely perfect.

Shibuya Morimoto

Open since 1952, Shibuya Morimoto has become a cult yakitori restaurant. Located in a corner barely 300 meters away from the famous Hachiko statue, they serve yakitori, or chicken skewers, grilled to perfection.
The restaurant sits only about 25 people with most of the seats at the counter tables where diners sit almost shoulder to shoulder. This setting is quite common in Japan and it allows you to strike some conversation and meet new people!
They open from 5 PM, and even before that you can already find a line in front of its closed doors. Don't arrive too late as many of the ingredients sell out!
The staff is super friendly and they have an English menu.
Their most famous yakitori is, of course, the chicken one, which you can get for 200 yen. All prices range from 190 yen to 500 yen. Having a full meal will add up to 4,000 yen.
There are also vegetarian options, like this shitake and green pepper skewer.
Another patrons' favourite is the chicken, gizzard and liver sashimi accompanied by a scattering of chopped scallions, pickled ginger, wasabi, and sudachi lime. Typically, the liver can have an overpowering iron taste, but here it is delicate and smooth.

Morimoto offers an old-school, convivial atmosphere. If you luck out with your dining companions, you might even make some new friends!
