For a night out in Shinjuku with free-flowing alcohol and great food, check out these five selected izakayas! They're all pretty cheap too.

Shiroganeya 白銀屋

This little gem is really popular with the locals because of its outstanding grilled fish on skewers. Japanese sake and shochu go really well with their menu.

The restaurant is located at about a 10-minute walk from Shinjuku station or a 5-minute walk from Seibu-Shinjuku station.

Dandanya 段々屋

Dandanya is famous for its delicious tempura skewers. This kind of cuisine is very rare, if not unique to this place. It's a popular restaurant to get a tempura lunch set but go there a night time and you can enjoy their great food along with an all-you-can-drink option (from ¥3,000).

Dandanya is a 3-minute walk from the south or west exit of Shinjuku station.

Awajishima-to Kurae 淡路島と喰らえ

Hanbey 半兵ヱ

Hanbey is a chain Izakaya that has the most awesome retro Showa Era (126 to 1989) themed decor and music. The atmosphere is just really nice and warm. The food at Hanbey is heavy on the deep-fried side. You can enjoy all kinds of kushikatsu (deep-fried skewers) for about ¥100 a piece. They have all-you-can-drink courses (food and drinks) that are less than ¥3,000.

Hanbey is located in Kabukicho.
