Osaka Halal Guide: Dotonbori

Are you in Osaka's popular Dotonbori area and looking for a halal Japanese meal? If so, you're in luck! Here's a list of 5 restaurants with halal options in the Dotonbori area. Enjoy!

Chibo (Okonomiyaki)

Osaka is famous for its Okonomiyaki and yakisoba. You can get halal versions of both of these delicious dishes here at Chibo! Get the store's signature 'Chiboyaki,' filled with beef, shrimp, scallop, and squid. Yum!

The large restaurant is located right next to the river in Dotonbori, and has several floors of seating. There is also a prayer room inside that is free for guests to use.

Naritaya (ramen)

The Osaka branch of this popular ramen restaurant is located a few blocks away from Dotonbori, close to Shinsaibashi Station. They use organic and halal ingredients, which is extremely rare among ramen shops in Japan. The special Narita ramen is 1,300 yen, or 1,500 for an extra large.

Apart from ramen, Naritaya also serves curry, chicken, and beef options. The restaurant is known for the karaage (fried chicken), which makes for a great side to your ramen. There is even a special halal wagyu menu, so this could also be your chance to try halal Japanese beef!

Naritaya is a certified halal restaurant, and they also have a prayer space available. Don't miss this bowl of ramen if you're in Osaka!

3 Te (Kobe beef)

This warm and inviting cafe is located close to Shinsaibashi Station, and is a few blocks away from Dotonbori. Although the restaurant doesn't serve exclusively halal food, there are 3 courses that are halal and feature Kobe beef! Halal Kobe beef is extremely rare, so this is a great chance to try it out! There are also vegetarian dishes that are quite delicious and worth ordering. In addition to great halal food, the restaurant also has a prayer space, and is a great spot for Muslim travelers to visit.

Tsuki No Odori (Chicken)

Tsuki No Odori is a yakitori restaurant in Dotonbori which serves delectable chicken dishes with a Muslim-friendly menu. It is a popular restaurant with visitors and locals alike because of its authentic taste. You can order chicken skewers a la carte, and they are about ¥150 each. There are many other delicious dishes to try, such as 'karaage' chicken (deep-fried chicken with an addictive flavor), chicken hot-pot, or the lightly cooked chicken sushi, shown above. The grilled rice ball is also a must-try!

This restaurant is a great place to enjoy an authentic Japanese meal in Osaka. A prayer space is also available.

Muqam (Uyghur cuisine)

If you've never experienced Uyghur cuisine, this is your chance! The Uyghur people live mostly in far western China, where cultural influences from the middle east blend with Chinese tradition. The food is delicious and halal, and is unlike anything you've ever had! Check it out!
