Miyamoto Munashi

Miyamoto Munashi is a comfy chain of Japanese restaurants that started in Osaka, and now has 11 locations throughout the city of Nagoya. It is known for its 'teishoku' (Japanese meal set) that feature large portions for an affordable price. If you're looking for a meal that is cheap and delicious, this is an awesome option!

Jumbo Tonkatsu Set

Jumbo Tonkatsu Set, ¥690
This is the most popular item at Miyamoto Munashi. That's probably because you get a big, crunchy tonkatsu the size of your face, plus miso soup, rice, and veggies, all for ¥690. This is a prime example of the kind of "kosupa" (cost-performance) that you can get here! The tonkatsu it perfectly crispy on the outside, and is wonderful to dip into the balanced, sweet and salty dipping sauce.

Shio Saba and Egg Set

Shio Saba and Egg Set, ¥690
This is one of the most classic Japanese 'teishoku' (set meals), and Miyamoto Munashi does it really well. The set features a beautifully grilled mackerel with crispy skin and fluffy, juicy white meat. This comes with tofu, chicken, miso soup, rice, and a tamagoyaki (Japanese egg). You can't go wrong with this set, especially when it's only ¥690.

Yakiniku Set

Yakiniku Set ¥890
For ¥890, this huge yakiniku set with rice, miso soup, tofu, and an egg yolk is an awesome deal! The beef kalbi (rib meat)is served on a sizzling skillet, mixed with veggies and seasoned with a sweet, slightly spicy sauce. You can of course eat it as is, or dip the meat into the egg yolk, adding a fantastic layer of umami. This is another very popular set meal at Miyamoto Munashi, and it's easy to see why!

Pork Shabu Set

Pork Shabu Set, ¥890
Who doesn't love shabu shabu? This set is a hit among people of all ages, and comes with 120 grams of pork belly meat that has already been shabu shabu-ed for you! All you have to do is dip it in the sauce of your choice and enjoy. There's a ponzu sauce or a sesame sauce, and both are light and refreshing, and complement the fatty, delicious pork meat.

Kitsune Udon

Kitsune Udon, ¥350
This is classic udon done well. The fried tofu skin absorbs all the rich flavor of the broth, and is super satisfying to eat. The noodles are thick and chewy, just how they should be. For just ¥350, this is a steal!

Free Rice Refills!

Included with any of the set meals is access to this bad boy; a giant rice cooker that is stocked with as much rice as your heart desires. For those of us who like to eat a lot of rice, this is great!

In Closing

Miyamoto Munashi is somewhere that you can go to over and over, without getting tired of it. The menu of set meals is huge, so there's definitely going to be something to satisfy whatever craving you're having! It's comfort food at a great price and is always satisfying! Try it out next time!
