Kiji is a legendary okonomiyaki restaurant that now has branches accross the country. However, the original Kiji Okonomiyaki restaurant is in Osaka's central district near Umeda Station. The joint is unquestionably one of the most highly regarded places for authentic Osaka-style okonomiyaki at a totally affordable price. The great thing about this place is that there are no reservations, so you'll definitely be able to get in!

Kiji is listed in the Michelin Guide as a Bib Gourmand restaurant, meaning it is exceptional yet affordable. The prices here are unbelievable for such a legendary place; Every okonomiyaki is 850 yen or less! The secret to the great taste of Kiji is the use of a special dried herb "Ooba" (perilla in English) that adds a fresh taste to the okonomiyaki. Also, another original and very popular item is the "Modern Okonomiyaki" that is made without using flour. Instead, more eggs are used which gives the okonomiyaki a much fluffier texture.

The 1Kg 'Osaka Castle' okonomiyaki
Yukari is a delicious Okonomiyaki restaurant with 9 shops around the Osaka area. The shop's most popular okonomiyaki is the 'Tokusei Mix Yaki,' which is just ¥1,220, despite being filled with pork loin, squid, shrimp, and octopus! It's definitely got the bang for your buck.

Another special item worth trying is the giant 'Osaka Castle' okonomiyaki, which weighs more than a kilo and is intended to be shared by up to 4 people. If you're looking for show-stopping okonomiyaki, this is the place to try!

Yamamoto is an Umeda institution that is famous for creating the original 'Negiyaki,' which is okonomiyaki packed full of delicious green onions! The delicious okonomiyaki here is something special and definitely worth checking out at least once while you're in Osaka.

If you're unsure of what to order, we recommend the 'Suji Negi,' which includes beef tendon, green onions, and konyaku. It's quite different from more traditional okonomiyaki but completely delicious!

Sakura is a great okonomiyaki joint that features 13 different kinds of okonomiyaki to choose from. The classic pork and fried egg okonomiyaki starts at just ¥800, with nothing else on the menu getting too expensive.

When you order okonomiyaki here, you have the option of getting it 'Modern Yaki' (with yakisoba on top) or 'Haikara (high-calorie) Yaki' (with udon noodles on top). Okonomiyaki is all about customization, after all, so it's great to have the option to add noodles if you want.

Kyochabana is definitely pushing the boundaries of traditional okonomiyaki. Located just 3 minutes from Hankyu Umeda Station, this restaurant serves unique teppan items such as the 'Tomato Okonomiyaki' and the 'Avocado Black Yakisoba'.

The 'Tomato Okonomiyaki' features a thick tomato-based sauce on a cake of garlic and cabbage, giving a lovely fresh flavor. The 'Avocado Black Yakisoba' features Japanese soba noodles and lots of avocado, mixed with an umami-filled sauce that gives it a magnificently rich flavor.
