Osaka's Kitamura: Sukiyaki to Try at Least Once Before You Die

Osaka City

Searching for the best sukiyaki in Osaka? Your search is over. Kitamura has been open in the same location in Shinsaibashi since 1881 and is so delicious that it earned a Michelin star.

Feel free to follow favy!

Why Go?

Kitamura not only has a prestigious Michelin star, but is also one of the oldest sukiyaki restaurants in Japan, being in operation since 1881! Anyone who wants to try truly outstanding Kansai-style sukiyaki in a restaurant with nearly 140 years of history should choose Kitamura. It's slightly more expensive than an average sukiyaki restaurant, but worth it for the experience and excellent sukiyaki!

If it's your first time to visit, the restaurant's classic 'Sukiyaki' is definitely the recommended choice. Delicious, premium wagyu beef slices are cooked in a thick soup-like sweet and salty sauce with vegetables and tofu. In addition to sukiyaki, Kitamura also serves 'Mizutaki,' a hot pot-style dish and 'Batayaki,' which is the same premium wagyu beef cooked with butter on a hot griddle. Anything is absolutely delicious and definintely won't disappoint!

There are 3 options on the menu at Kitamura: Sukiyaki for ¥9,100/person, Mizutaki for ¥9,100/person, or Batayaki for ¥10,000 / person. In addition, a service fee of 10% is added to the total bill.

Reservations / Access

Kitamura is one of the most famous sukiyaki restaurants in Japan, and as such is very popular. If you plan to visit, it's advised to make a reservation about a month in advance, if possible. Be advised that children under 11 are not permitted.

The restaurant is located 4 blocks from Shinsaibashi Station, in one of the most interesting neighborhoods in Osaka.

I live in west Tokyo and spend most of my time thinking about food or going bouldering.
