Monnan: incredible chicken cheese Korean fondue in Shin-Okubo, Tokyo!

Shinjuku

Monnan Gamja has rapidly become one of the most popular restaurants in Shin-Okubo because of its jaw-dropping cheese fondue dishes.

Feel free to follow favy!

This is a chain izakaya in Korea that has become really popular recently, not just in Korea but also in Japan where it has opened its first location in Shin-Okubo.

The signature dish: cheese fondue chicken!

The claim to fame of the restaurant: the Fondue Chicken! For ¥2,080, you get a mountain of crispy Korean-style fried chicken standing in a pool of cheese sauce, and on top of which more cheese is added!

The flavour is also customizable (eight different flavours from which you choose when you order). Flavours include bbq-style, spicy shrimp, and soy sauce for instance. If you want you can choose two flavours and have it a 'half and half'.

It's hard to believe but actually a lot of people order CHEESE as an extra topping! For just ¥300, you can have what is called the 'Water Fall of Cheese' extra. This is truly a restaurant for cheese addicts.

There is so much cheese in one dish that it quite literally can become a waterfall of cheese!

...and you can hardly even see the pieces of chicken.

Take a piece of chicken with your chopsticks and the melting cheese stretches as you lift. As for the taste, it's an explosion of sweet, savoury and spicy! Go there with an appetite and you should be thoroughly satisfied!

You might want to go with friends because one of these chicken fondue might bit too much for one person to handle.

If you want a one-person size dish, you can try their Cheese Magma (¥980).

It's the same pool of cheese but with a reasonable portion of rice and an egg as a topping.

Underneath the egg is a kind of kimchi fried rice that is really good and goes surprisingly well with the cheese.

Lastly...

When visiting Tokyo's K-Town, Shin-Okubo, this is definitely a good option for some rich, satisfying Korean cuisine!
