Sakaba Ebisudou: One of the best izakayas in Ebisu

Sakaba Ebisudou is a well-kept secret in Ebisu. It doesn't even have a sign indicating that it's a restaurant but the regular customers rave about it. Find out all about this secret izakaya that is one of the best in the area.

Feel free to follow favy!

Sakaba Ebisudou

From Ebisu station's west exit, walking through the shopping arcade, it takes about 4-minutes to get to this intriguing restaurant without a sign indicating its name.

There's a large window, however, from which you can see inside the many patrons having a great time. The restaurant is called Sakaba Ebisudou, and it's one of the most popular drinking holes in the area.
The owner is really friendly and that's probably one of the reasons this place is so popular.

Another reason is, of course, their delicious foods. If you're visiting for the first time, you might want to try one of their courses with starting at ¥4,000. At that price, the all-you-can-drink option is included so it's of incredible value!
The items introduced here are part of the nice service, 2-hour all-you-can-drink course (¥4,000).

Pictured above is a delectable miso dressing salad you get served at first.
Next, you get served some fresh seasonal sashimi. On the day I went, the sashimi was bonito and yellowtail that was delivered directly from the Tsukiji fish market. The taste was superb and the slices were thick too.
One of the signature dishes at this restaurant is the Aburi Shime Saba (mackerel). It's scorched by burner at your table, and right after that's performed, some fresh lemon is squeezed on it. It's recommended that you have it with the mustard soy-sauce that comes with it.
The taste is surprisingly juicy with lots of tasty umami-packed fatty meat.
On the day I went, there was this huge stew at the counter that looked and smelled incredibly delicious.
The beef and potato stew is another one of the restaurant's signature foods. It's served to you with an onsen tamago (half-boiled egg) and some bread. The meat is tender and the stew is so rich-tasting, almost like a demi-glace sauce.
As for the bread, it's an amazingly springy and tasty Focaccia worthy of a high-end bakery.
This cheese-like tofu and baguette bread plate are really interesting. The tofu is so rich and creamy that it tastes almost like a cheesecake. It's served with some honey which adds just the right amount of sweetness.
Just when you're getting pretty full comes a hearty meat plate! This is chicken rapidly roasted at a very high temperature so the outside is crispy and the inside is tender and juicy. It's seasoned with a soy-based fruity-tasting sauce.

This goes so well with alcohol!
As the last dish, you get a seasonal takikomi rice bowl. I got one with octopus and young sardines as toppings.

This is a great izakaya for so many reasons. The prices are good, the atmosphere is warm, the staff is friendly, and the food is super tasty. Whatever the reason, you should give it a try next time you're looking for a place to eat or drink in Ebisu.
