Tenkuni Ginza's heavenly tempura

Ginza

In the Ginza area, Tenkuni is undoubtedly one of the best restaurants for tempura. They serve delectable voluminous tendon bowls for around ¥1,500 and some deluxe Japanese set courses as well.

Tenkuni Ginza

Tenkuni is a tempura house of very long-standing in Ginza (opened in 1885). It's a huge restaurant on two floors with a seating capacity of over 200 people. They have private dining rooms for 2 to 30 people so it's a good place to go if you want a venue for a large group.

A tendon with an outstanding umami

The golden color, crispiness of the coat and tender juiciness of the core of each piece is not the only reason why this place is and has been popular for years. Indeed, what makes the tempura standout is the tare sauce poured on it before serving. The sauce is quickly absorbed by the tempura pieces, blending itself with the oil and creating an extra dimension of savory umami that makes the tempura so irresistible.

You will love the tendon (pieces of tempura over a bowl of rice) which comes in different sizes ranging in price from about ¥1,000 to ¥3,000.

Traditional Japanese sets

For something special, you might want to try the 'Nihon Ryori' sets, which are deluxe sets of refined Japanese cuisine, featuring, of course, the tempura. These are about ¥3,000 to ¥4,000.
It doesn't get much better then Tenkuni Ginza for tempura. For the outstanding quality, the price is great. Give it a try if you visit the Ginza area eventually.
