Tempura Hachimaki: affordable and delectable tempura in Jimbocho
Tempura Hachimaki has got to be one of the best tempura houses of long-standing in old Tokyo. It's pretty cheap too, and the portions are generous. If you're craving some deep-fried Japanese comfort food around Jimbocho, this is where to go!
Feel free to follow favy!
Hachimaki is a famous spot for cheap and delicious tempura in the old Tokyo neighbourhood of Jimbocho.
It's been around since 1931. You'll be charmed by the unpretentious authentic atmosphere of the restaurant.
A good lunch option is to get the tendon (tempura toppings on a bowl of rice). They have several different kinds ranging in price from about ¥800 to ¥2,000. A popular, reasonably-priced and satisfying one is the ¥1,000 Ebi Tendon, which comes served with three huge shrimps as a topping, along with some vegetables.
You can go there for a quick lunch, but it's also a nice place to spend an evening. They have some semi-private rooms with horigotatsu tables (sunken-style traditional table). At night, with many people having a few drinks with their meal, you'll find there an izakaya atmosphere. You can have full courses too that go up to ¥5,000.
