Deep Osaka: Not Yakitori, it's Chicken Yakiniku!

Osaka City

Looking to avoid the tourist spots and have a really 'local' experience in Osaka? You've come to the right article! Today we'll be introducing a new restaurant that serves chicken yakiniku (not yakitori) from 9:00 in the morning!

Feel free to follow favy!

Chicken Yakiniku and Beer from 9:00 in the Morning

Hattori is a newly opened restaurant near Dobutsuenmae Station in Osaka. It's a standing-room-only restaurant / bar that's open from 9:00 am and specializes in chicken yakiniku. That means that you grill your own chicken pieces on a small gas-fired grill at the counter, just like yakiniku.

Chicken Yakiniku is actually a specialty of Matsuzaka City in nearby Mie prefecture, where Hattori's owner has his roots. According to him, chicken yakitori is even more popular than beef yakitori in Matsuzaka, which is famous for having some of the best beef in the world (Matsuzaka Beef).

Hattori is new, but already super popular among locals. It's typically open until 9:00 pm, but the chicken sometimes sells out by mid-afternoon! That means the safest bet is probably to go for lunch or breakfast.
The prices at Stand Hattori are what you'd expect from a little local shop; super cheap! You can order plates of different cuts of chicken meat for just 430 yen for most. The chicken is served coated with 'aka miso' (red miso) which is a signature ingredient of areas in central Japan. The miso has a slight spice and a wonderful sweetness.

The chicken is cleaned and prepared fresh every morning and is quite delicious. The red miso coating the chicken gives is a lovely base flavor that permeates the chicken as it grills. If you prefer a stronger flavor, there is a red miso-based dipping sauce, or there are chili flakes that can be added for extra spice. It's yakiniku, so you have full control over how you want it to taste.
In the mornings (from 9:00 to 11:00 am), a special morning set is available for ¥500 that includes a drink (alcoholic) and one food item. What a way to start the day, huh? If you're the type who doesn't mind having a drink before noon, this could be the perfect breakfast spot for you!

Stand Hattori is located just a minute south from Dobutsuenmae Station (Exit 9). Its bright red entrance make it easy to spot.

If you're looking for a super local experience in Osaka, it doesn't get much deeper than this. Check it out sometime!
