5 Best Places to have Breakfast in Ueno

Here's our selection for the best breakfast in Ueno. Our list includes everything from Japanese traditional cafes to popular chains.

Feel free to follow favy!

Ojo 王城

Ojo is a really beautiful 'kissaten' (retro Japanese cafe of European influence) that's been around since 1975. Whether you want something savory or sweet, they have a variety of items that can make up a tasty breakfast, including the classical kissaten pizza toast (pictured above), or their fluffy pancakes that are just ¥200. The specialty is coffee, which you can have at a morning price of ¥450.

Ojo is open from 8 AM.

Usagiya CAFE うさぎや CAFE

Usagiya, the original shop, is famous for making some of the best dorayaki in Tokyo. Dorayaki, if you aren't familiar with this traditional sweet, is sort of like a pancake sandwich with adzuki sweet beans in the middle. This cafe location makes outright pancakes that come with the adzuki jam and butter on the side. For the morning set, you just have to select your drink to go with it.

The recommended way to eat them is to butter them up and then spread the adzuki on them before folding them in half. The cafe warns to be careful because the melting butter might start to drip, but that's a small price to pay for such a treat. The salty butter goes works wonderfully well to balance out the sweetness of the pancakes and the adzuki paste adds that other dimension that gives it a distinctive wagashi (Japanese sweets) taste.

As a morning set, the cafe requires that you purchase either a roasted green tea (¥250) or a coffee (¥450) along with the pancakes (¥650).

The cafe is open from 9 AM.

WIRED CAFE is a fashionable chain cafe that serves ¥500 morning sets. They have four choices: a toast set with ham and an egg, a danish set with corn soup, a salad set with a danish, or a berry yogurt set with a danish. Add ¥100 to that and you can also have a drink.

WIRED CAFE is located on the first basement floor of Atre, and is open from 8 AM.

T's tantan

T's tantan is known as the healthy ramen shop where you can have one of Tokyo's best vegan ramen. It's also one of the few ramen shops where you can have a morning meal at a special price from 7 AM to 10 AM.

Hard Rock Cafe

Hard Rock Cafe is conveniently located right inside the Station near the main exit so it could be a good gathering point when you want to visit the Ueno Park of the famous back alley area called Ame Yokocho.

They're most famous for their big juicy burgers but they also serve classical American and other western foods for breakfast (French toasts, pancakes, eggs benedict, etc.).

Hard Rock Cafe is open from 7 AM.
