5 Places to Try Unique Daifuku in Osaka

There are different types of daifuku, mochi in Japan. The most common daifuku is called ichigo-daifuku (strawberry mochi) or mame-daifuku (bean mochi), but recently new types of daifuku have been discovered. So here's a list of places where you can try authentic to novel daifuku in Osaka!

Kyou Sagano Chikujian (京 嵯峨野 竹路庵 大丸梅田店)

What you should try here is their ichigo daifuku. Unlike other ichigo daifuku, there is a cut in between the mochi and the strawberry is put in between. They have several flavors such as chocolate paste, milk paste and red bean paste. You can purchase this colorful and photogenic ichigo daifuku for around ¥190 at Daimaru Umeda, just a minute walk from Umeda station.

Shouchikudou (松竹堂)

Established more than 180 years ago, this place offers fruit daifuku! They have 12 flavors and fresh fruit is covered with red bean paste and mochi. Their flavors include strawberry, peach strawberry, pear, pineapple, banana, kiwi, grape, etc, and it changes seasonally. Price is around ¥250~300.

Take out only, perfect for souvenirs or to snack on at your hotel or at your house!
Around a 10 minute walk from Banpaku Kinen Kouen Station.

Isshindou (一心堂)

Just around a 5 minute walk from Hagihara Tenjin station, this place also have fruit daifuku along with ichigo daifuku that has a huge strawberry inside. They offer seasonal fruit daifuku including peach, mango, cantaloupe, watermelon, mont blanc, orange, chocolate banana etc for the price of ¥280.

Mochishou Shizuku (餅匠 しづく)

Around a 4 minute walk from Nishi Ohashi station, this place is very famous for their framboise daifuku! Why is it so famous? It is because of its refreshing taste. They use beets paste with a hint of rum instead of red bean paste, which gives it sweet taste at the beginning that gradually becomes sour. They also have nama-chocolate (ganache) daifuku as their seasonal daifuku, so you might want to check that out too. Their daifuku is available at ¥280.

Kansendou (甘泉堂)

Just a minute walk from Hanazonochou station, this place serves dessert daifuku and you will be amazed by the flavor that they came up with. They have nama-chocolate (ganache) daifuku, Tiramisu daifuku, and rare cheese daifuku for just ¥150 per piece! It is a fusion of western pastries and Japanese traditional dessert. Definitely worth a try!
