Tanmiya (たん味屋)

Located 10 mins walk from Kyoto station, this gyutan restaurant has Japanese traditional decoration and nice atmosphere.

They have a great variety of gyutan menu, and I recommend you to try gyutan aburi-sashi (1480 yen). They use the softest part of beef tongue and grill very lightly like a rare steak. They will melt in your mouth.

Gyutan Keisuke (牛タン圭助)

Also located near Kyoto Station, this restaurant serves great gyutan and sake!

The interior is decorated in a Japanese style and the presentations of the dishes are so good. You can have thick and juicy gyutan steak for 1280 yen! They have a selection of sake which goes will with gyutan.

Morishoten (森商店)

If you are very hungry, you can get a big meal at Morishouten. It is located on the second floor of a shopping mall near Katsuragawa station.

They serve many kinds of gyutan teishoku, Japanese set meal, that includes rice, side vegetables, and soup. They are around 1000-2000 yen and very satisfying amount.

Shinjou (しんじょう)

Shinjou, located 3 mins walk from Gionshijo station, creates nostalgic atmosphere where you can be relaxed and enjoy gyutan.

The most popular menu is tanshabu (1800 yen) which stands for gyutan-shabushabu. Shabu shabu is a hotpot-like Japanese dish. You put thinly sliced meat (usually pork) into the hotpot just for a moment because the meat will be cooked very quickly. Here, you can do it with beef tongue. They are very tender and meaty.

Must try in Kyoto!
