Brand New Meat Experience: Try Rose Shaped Roast Beef Bowl at Gabu!
Roast beef bowl is a new trend in Japan. We heard that there is a restaurant that has won championships at "Japan's Best Don (bowl) Grand Prix" for three years in a row where they serve rose shaped roast beef bowl in Musashi Koyama, Tokyo, so we went to try their delicious Gabu-don with rose shaped roast beef!
Around a 5 minute walk from Musashi Koyama station, if you see a door with a fish shaped window, you're on the right track!
Let me just warn you. What awaits you inside cannot be described by words - it will stay in your heart and you will dream about their delicious roast beef bowl forever.
The chef wanted customers to enjoy eating each slice of roast beef, so he decided to create a bouquet version where you can eat as if you are peeling off petals.
Here comes the most artsy roast beef bowl ever! Gabu-don Bouquet, ¥1,400
Rose shaped roast beefs are topped on cabbages which are topped on rice. The seasoning is simple, with soy sauce based tare (sauce) and pepper that adds accent to its slightly salty yet mild, sweet taste. With tare's sweetness, pepper's spiciness and roast beefs' umami, I can tell you, you will go speechless.
I am still dreaming about this Gabu-don Bouquet after so many days.
Surprisingly, even if you choose a larger portion (1.5g or 1 pound), the amount of rice stays the same regardless of its size! So if you love roast beef I would recommend trying 1.5g or 1 pound, you will not be disappointed!
It's not just their roast beef bowl that's good. Just a bite of Gabu-don Bouquet makes you want to try all other dishes on their menu!
Next time I go, I will definitely try their "5 kinds of meat chirashi bowl" where they have the rose shaped roast beef in the middle, surrounded with teriyaki chicken, grilled pork, salty-sweet seasoned beef and soboro (minced chicken) with rice at the bottom!
