Tempura is one of the popular Japanese cuisines and there are countless numbers of tempura restaurants just in Tokyo. Just to make your decisions a little easier, here's a list of tempura restaurants in Shinjuku!

Tsunahachi

Established in 1924, Tsunahachi has been providing the best service and tempura for customersto people in Japan. They have opened their stores in other regions of Japan including Sapporo, Osaka and Fukuoka. They offer fresh tempura that uses seasonal ingredients, and they use white sesame oil to cook. They also have a Tokyo-limited Kirin beer that you can only try at stores in Tokyo! Their seasonal menu is also popular, and you can enjoy it from ¥3,000~7,000. Just a 3 minute walk from Shinjuku Sancho-me station.

Tenkichiya

Tenkichiya is famous not only for their delicious tempura but also tendon (tempura topped on bowl of rice)! What's so special about their tendon is their famous "Ten-mabushi" - you can enjoy tendon in 3 ways at once! First you can enjoy tempura by itself, then tendon, and if you pour hot tea it will become Tendon-chazuke! This is their original menu, so you can only enjoy this here.
Plus, their original tendon, called "Tenkichi tendon", is also famous for its satisfying volume of topping tempura!
Just a 4 minute walk from Shinjuku station, west exit.

Tenkane

Tenkane serves good quality tempura that uses fish freshly selected from Tsukiji fish market as ingredients. Using luxurious oil making method used in Edo era, they use a mix of pure sesame oil and vegetable oil to cook tempura. Their tentsuyu (sauce that you dip tempura in to eat it) is passed on from previous owners, which indicates that their tsuyu hasn't changed at all. Just a 2 minute walk from Shinjuku station, west exit, you can have a fresh, luxurious tempura experience.

Dandanya

If you want to try something new or looking for a place to try unique tempura, this place will help you. Have you heard of kushi-katsu before? This place offers Kushi-tempura (tempura with skewers)! Moreover you they offer Cold Tendon (tempura topped on a rice bowl), which is beyond perfect for summer. Around a 5 minute walk from Shinjuku station, west exit or south exit.

Funabashiya

If you are looking for an authentic tempura experience in Shinjuku, you should check out Funabashiya. Just a 2 minute walk from the east exit of JR Shinjuku station, you may see a long line of people waiting to try their delicious tempura. Funabashiya Honten is also known as one of the oldest tempura restaurant in Shinjuku. Why not try their tempura that has been loved by local people for more than 130 years?
