The Best Teppanyaki Restaurants In Akita

Akita City

Teppanyaki is a type of Japanese cooking style that uses a large iron plate to grill. It can be used for cooking all kinds of meats, seafood and okonomihyaki (a type of savoury Japanese pancake). If you are in Akita city and would like to try this type of cooking, here are three addresses you should try.

Horaana: the flagship teppanyaki restaurant in Akita

This address is the most reputable in Akita for teppanyaki. When you get there, you'll see an elegant entrance that leads to a long hall before entering the stylish and wide dining area. It is located at approximately 2 kilometers from the Akita Station.
Horaana is famous for delicious okonomiyaki and fine quality steaks. You can get course meals at a reasonable price considering the quality of the ingredients used at this restaurant. The most expensive course, which is quite reasonable for a teppanyaki course, is just 4000 yen. In this course, you get A5 grade Akita beef filet and beef roast! For that alone it is worth going. With this course, you'll also be served pork okonomiyaki and various other side dishes such as a won ton soup and vegetables.

Manhattan Grill Sannoza

This restaurant has a stylish comfortable interior. As the name implies, it is of western influence in its atmosphere and menu. You do not grill the dishes yourself here as it is sometime the case in teppanyaki resaturants, but instead if you sit at the counter you will see the chef skillfully do it right before your eyes. Located 2 kilometers away from the Akita Station.
This place is highly rated for its lunch sets. You can order the popular teppanyaki grilled beefsteak don (beefsteak on rice) course for 1480 yen. It comes with an excellent red past miso soup, pickled vegetables and a home-made dessert. You may also have more expensive, well-presented dishes of Wagyu beef. A good choice for dinners on a special occasion.

Lastly...

Teppanyaki is a really nice cooking style that is not so well known outside of Japan. If you are in Akita, you should definitely try the above-mentioned restaurants.
