What Is Umeshu?
Umeshu is translated as Japanese plum wine in English, but it does not contain any wine. It is made from ume (plum) which is steeped in shochu and sugar. The alcohol content is about 10-15%, but the sweet and refreshing taste is favored by light drinkers as well. The standard way to drink Umeshu is on the rock, but there are also cocktails like Umeshu soda or Umeshu tonic and others. Also, there are many types of Umeshu, and many Umeshu nowadays add other fruits and toppings in the umeshu.
SHUGAR MARKET is located 2 minutes away from Shibuya station Hachiko Exit. It is a store that specializes in serving local and handmade fruit liquor from different parts of Japan. There are over 100 types of Umeshu and fruit liquor, and you can drink as much as you want, for as long as you want. The price is ¥ 3,240 and you can make your own cocktails by mixing Umeshu, fruit liquors and chasers provided for you!
Sai is located 5 minutes away from Shibuya station Hachiko exit. It is a restaurant that specializes in Umeshu and Shochu, while also serving various Japanese dishes that go with the Umeshu. Some of the dishes even use Umeshu, such as the spare ribs that are stewed in Umeshu! There are over 100 types of Umeshu that you can choose from, but for those who cannot choose, there is a "Umeshu tasting set" which comes with 3 selected Umeshu in smaller glasses. You can enjoy the slight differences between each type of Umeshu, and the price is only ¥1,000.
Umeshu Dining Myojyo
Umeshu Dining Myojyo is located 3 minutes away from Iidabashi station. This is a izakaya restaurant that you can enjoy shabu shabu, as well as other dishes. But of course, their main focus is the Umeshu. With 150 types of Umeshu, you can enjoy specific ones if you just want a few glasses, but if you want to enjoy many types, you can do the all-you can drink course. This course includes 150 types of Umeshu, Sake, beer, whisky, cocktails and soft drinks, and you can drink all you want for 100 minutes, and the price is ¥1500.
Daichi No Okurimono
Daichi No Okurimono is located 5 minutes away from Ueno station. It is a buffet style restaurant, but their concept is serving natural foods and the menu is mainly vegetables and many other healthy dishes. You can enjoy eating as much as you want for 2 hours, and you can add the Umeshu plan, which allows you to drink Umeshu as much as you want for 2 hours. The soft drink plan is ¥2990 yen for dinner, but with only an additional ¥500, you can enjoy drinking as many glasses of Umeshu as you want!
Tokyo Umeshu Bar MATERIAL
This bar is located 10 minutes away from Shibuya station, and as the store is located on the B1F of a building, it is quite hidden and you can enjoy being in a more calm, relaxed atmosphere. You can enjoy super local Japanese dishes such as oden, yakisoba, as well as other regional dishes of Japan. But, what is more surprising is their selection of alcohol, with over 5000 types of Shochu and 1000 types of Umeshu. The master will help you find your favorite bottle of Umeshu!
