Koenji: A Neighborhood in Tokyo You Need to Discover

Koenji is a really fun and fashionable neighborhood to discover. There is everything from, second-hand clothing and vinyl stores, bars, good restos, tattoo parlors, and a fun crowd.

Feel free to follow favy!

Koenji

Koenji is located in Suginami ward, on the Chuo line (Koenji station) and Marunoushi line (Shin-Koenji & Higashi-Koenji stations). It is easily accessible from Shinjuku!

Once you're there, there is so much to do, from nice cafes, to nice shopping areas with second-hand clothing stores or designer items. The crowd here is a little more alternative, with people having a slighly rock look and sporting tattoos. Speaking of which, there are more than one famous tattoo parlors in the area!

There is also a very famous area with loads of small and interesting izakayas. You can go there with some friends, and your neighbor is likely to chat you up, making it a fun and unforgettable night.

Manmajiima まんまじぃま

This izakaya is located a few minutes from Koenji station. This izakaya is surrounded by used clothing store, restaurants, fun shops, etc. You'll have fun discovering the neighborhood and then relaxing at this resto with a beer and some great food. You should try their fresh sashmi!

Abusan

Abusan is near Koenji station, and is one of the must-try izakayas in the neighborhood. This restaurant specializes in shellfish. This restaurant is east to miss as it may just look like a house from the outside. There are tons of dishes to try, you should try the raw oysters and ask for a great sake pairing!

Enjiya

Enjiya is only 4 minutes away from Koenji station and is a great place to visit. They are famous for their fish dishes and their sake selection, and you won't go wrong trying them!

Otomeshi

Otomeshi is a fun little izakaya in Koenji. This place serves delicious sake and dishes, we recommend the fresh fish over rice!
Since this place is rather narrow, it's best to go by yourself (if you're brave enough), or with another person.

Finally...

You should also come back for the Awa Dori festival in the summer. Check out the link below for more information!
