It is basically grilled eel on the rice bowl, but it comes some condiments and grean tea based soup to mix with. It means you can enjoy the delicious eel in different ways at one time. Atsuta Horaiken (あつた蓬莱軒)

If you are looking for the very authentic hitsumabushi and traditional restaurant, this place is the one. Located near Denmacho station, they have been preserving the recipe and serving the amazing hitsumabushi for over 140 years.

The eel is perfectly grilled and coated with delicious sweet and savory sauce. It is so great that you would feel like you don't even need any condiment nor soup to pour. The hitsumabushi meal set is 3600 yen. This restaurant is popular and usually people are lining up for.

Unafuji (うな富士)

Unafuji, located 10 minutes walk from Tsurumai station, is another famous hitsumabushi restaurant that is always full of people.

Their hitumabushi is a bit pricey (4320 yen) but truly the top quality. The rice is covered with a plenty of thick and fluffy eel. They serve a seafood broth soup to pour over the eel and rice to change the flavor instead of the regular green tea soup.

Maruya Honten (まるや本店)

Looking for great hitsumabushi around Nagoya station? Maruya Honten is the place to go. There are several stores in Nagoya, one of them is 5 minutes walk away from Nagoya station and the one is inside the station.

Their hitsumabushi (3065 yen) uses selected eels raised in good environment, so they are nicely fatty. The sauce is made from come kinds of soy sauce that makes the taste and flavor complicated. They also sell a bento box so you can take out.

Unatou (うな東)

Unatou's hitsumabushi is the best value for money. You can get there by 5 minutes walking from Komeno or Aoyama station (There are two locations).

All their eel menu is reasonably priced compared with other restaurants. The hitsumabushi is only 2200 yen but still tastes amazing. While tasting your thick eel with the sauce and condiments, you can enjoy the nice traditional atmosphere and interior decorations too.
