10 Best Breakfast Spots You Can't Miss in Sapporo!

Visiting Sapporo? Sapporo, the capital city of the northernmost prefecture Hokkaido, is known for being a gourmet city where you can have an nice breakfasts too. Here is a list of the most popular breakfast cafes and shops in Sapporo. Try one of them, and you can start off your day in the best way!

Ishiya Cafe

Ishiya cafe is owned by a Hokkaido's famous confectionery maker "Ishiya", which is well known for the "shiroi koibito" cookie. Located on B2F of a building, 7 minutes walk away from Sapporo station.

They serve great desserts like rich and creamy parfaits and fluffy pancakes from the morning time. They also have a breakfast sandwich set meal that comes with your choice of drink.

Sky J

Sky J is located on the 35th floor of the JR Tower Hotel Sapporo, which is a 3 minute walk away from Sapporo station. They are very famous as a top buffet restaurant in the city.

You can enjoy the breakfast buffet with the nice view of Sapporo city. They serve a variety of foods, from Japanese to western style breakfasts. They only use selected ingredients, and dishes are freshly cooked or baked. 3024 yen for adults (13 and older), and 1350 yen for kids.

Saera

Saera is one of the hottest breakfast spots for locals. It is a chic cafe located on the B3 of a building which is a just 2-minute walk away from Odori station.

What attracts people to the cafe is their delicious Japanese-style sandwiches. The fillings such as fruits & whipped cream, shrimp cutlet, and even Hokkaido's famous crab are placed between the fluffy white bread.

Miyakoshiya Coffee

Miyakoshiya Coffee is a famous chain cafe in Hokkaido where you can get a reasonably priced, quick yet great coffee and breakfast. There are several locations in Sapporo, and one is located in front of the west exit of Sapporo station.

The cafe has a nice and nostalgic atmosphere. You can relax and have a rich and flavorful cup of coffee to start off your day.

b's kafé

This is a nice cafe inside the Tobu Hotel located near the Susukino station. The relaxing bright interior is inspired by Scandinavian design. Breakfast is from 7:00 to 9:30 AM. Items for breakfasts include croque-monsieur sandwiches, croissant and quiche sets, egg benedict, etc. The place is a bakery as well so you can order freshly baked sweet or savory items too. The cake menu from the patisserie is available from 10 AM for those with a sweet tooth.

Arinko

"Arinko", which literally means ants in Japanese, is a famous chain in Sapporo specializing in "onigiri" (rice balls). There are 6 shops in Sapporo including the one inside Sapporo station.

They will make your onigiri right after you order it. You can choose from a variety of ingredients like salmon and seaweed that will be stuffed inside of your onigiri. The combination of onigiri and miso soup is a traditional Japanese style breakfast.

CAFE YOSHIMI

CAFE YOSHIMI is a cafe which crowded all day long. It is located a 3-minute walk from Sapporo station.

People come to the cafe for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dessert, and dinner. They open from 7:30 am but I recommend you to go after 9 am because it is the time they start to serve a variety of great brunches, including their famous fluffy pancakes!

Fabulous!

This is a cafe that serves healthy morning specials from 8 to 11 AM. The vegetable sandwich with all its colorful fresh toppings neatly placed inside is probably one of the most beautiful sandwiches that you will ever see. It's so thick that it feels like eating a salad. It comes with your choice of drink for ¥940. Alternatively, you can have the fruit sandwich which is filled with a mix of yogurt and cream and citrus fruits. It also comes with a drink as part of a morning set for ¥850. There is also the "one plate set" which comes with different kinds of bread and many different kinds of seasonal fruits. If you want something simple, you can also have a toast or a bagel set.

Kita no Gurumetei

If you are seeking something unique and different from a normal breakfast, how about the freshest quality seafood for your first meal of the day? There is a fish market in Sapporo and this place is located nearby. Around a 5-minute walk from Nijuyonken station.

They serve great seafood dishes made with the freshest ingredients from the fish market. You can choose from a variety of kaisendon (a bowl of rice topped with raw seafood) like salmon, tuna, shrimp, sea urchin... and more!

Donbe 丼兵衛

This is a local's secret in the fish market. Well, not so secret anymore since it was featured on TV for its ¥500 "bara chirashi" set served from 7 AM. It's a bowl of rice served with sushi toppings that are super fresh since they are taken on the same day from the fish market. It also comes with a soup. If you can eat fresh sashimi for breakfast like the Japanese do, this is definitely a good spot for a delicious, healthy, and cheap breakfast. The restaurant is small, with just a few counter seats but it is worth going there for an authentic Japanese experience. They have some other delicious options, mostly seafood bowls, that are more pricey.
