A Guide To Exquisite Sushi In Kumamoto!
Amazing sushi is found everywhere in Japan, and Kumamoto is no exception! This wonderful city in Kyushu is located near the Ocean which makes it a great spot for delicious, fresh sushi. Make sure to check out these selected high-grade sushi restaurants when you visit Kumamoto!

Amakusa
Amakusa is located at 1 minute walk from the Hanabacho Station. It's a reference for sushi in Kumamoto. The shop is very particular about the freshness of the fish so they have tanks with live seafood in the restaurant. It doesn't get any fresher than that! The restaurant also offers some of Kumamoto's specialties. There are some counter seats and some Japanese traditional tatami seats on the floor. It makes for a great atmosphere while you enjoy the great sushi! The restaurant has a nice selection of Japanese sake too! Expect to pay between 5,000 and 8,000 yen.
Sushi Sempachi
If you are looking for absolute quality sushi prepared by highly-skilled chefs Sushi Sempachi is the place for you. It is located at just a 1 minute walk from the Hanabacho Station, in a secluded little shop in a basement floor. The sushi chefs here go to the fish market every day and select the very best catches. This place is a bit pricey at 10,000 to 15,000 yen for an evening course but you will not forget the taste of perfectly prepared sushi with the best of ingredients!
Inaho
Inaho is a really nice shop located at a 2 minute walk from the Hanabatacho Station. It has delicious sushi, but also the store specializes in another Japanese traditional dish called chawanmushi, a kind of savoury steamed egg custard with chicken, mushrooms and various other ingredients. Chawanmushi and sushi go well together so try both! Have a nice glass of beer while you're at it too. Inaho is relatively affordable for the quality you get. Expect to pay under 5,000 yen for a great gastronomical experience!
Sushi Nakamura
Sushi Nakamura is located at a 4 minute walk from the Torichosuji Station. This place has a very comfortable traditional atmosphere. The Interior is wooden and decorated simply with seasonal ikebana (Japanese flower arrangement) with a kitchen surounded by a large counter. The sushi are so tasty and well-prepared by skilled young chef. You can also come here for lunch and have a nice sushi meal for under 3,000 yen. Night courses are a little pricey but well worth it if you are willing to pay 8,000 yen or more.
Sushiya Tokizo
Sushiya Tokizo is located at a 3 minute walk from the Fujisakigumae Station. Aside from having great sushi, the chef makes the most amazing artful presentation of the dishes. Lunch time sets are surprinsingly affordable. You can get a 12 sushi set for just 1,260 yen. For dinner time, expect to pay something around 5,000 yen. The shop has a nice selection of Japanese sake to choose from too. Drinks are approximately 500 yen each.
