Visiting Yokohama? There are many things to do there; shopping, going to some museums, amusement parks, and eating ramen. Yokohama has thousands of ramen shops and also has invented a local ramen called "Iekei ramen" which is popular throughout Japan today. Here is a list of the most popular ramen shops around Yokohama!

Ramen Trick (らーめん 鶏喰)

This is a ramen joint that is extremely popular in Yokohama. You can have it either soy-based or salt-based. Both are excellent yet very simple in taste. What's people like about this restaurant is that there are lots of extra toppings that you can put on your ramen. Chicken dango (chicken balls), chicken chashu, or marinated eggs are all popular choices. Another thing that is popular here is the "Asari Nokke Gohan" which is a special kind of rice that you can add to your soup once you are finished eating your noodles. This is called ochazuke.

Ramen Trick is located a stone-throw away from the Yoshinocho Station.

Suzukiya (寿々喜家)

This ramen joint has been around since 1990. Rain or shine, you can often see long lines forming in front of it. The secret to its success is that they offer an awesome tonkotsu (pork-based) ramen that is cheap too at just ¥700. The taste is apparently not too strong so it attracts many women customers as well.

Suzukiya is located at a 10-minute walk from the Kamihoshikawa Station.

Yoshimuraya (吉村家)

Yoshimuraya is the most famous ramen shop in Yokohama, located 5 minutes walk from Yokohama station. People often make a line for their ramen.

They are well known as the birthplace of Yokohama's specialty ramen "Iekei Ramen". It is a type of ramen whose soup is made from fatty tonkotsu (pork broth) and soy sauce. At Yoshimuraya, you can choose the firmness of the noodles, the amount of fat, and the saltiness of the soup. Regular ramen is just 690 yen, very rich and delicious.

Tsuruichiya (鶴一家)

This is also Iekei ramen shop located 5 minutes walk on the west exit of the station. If you are meat or spicy food lovers, Tsuruichiya is the place to go.

Their ramen soup is amazingly rich. It comes with thick and large slices of tender roast pork. They also offer a spicy ramen menu which has four different levels of spiciness. They're open 24 hours.

Honmarutei (本丸亭)

Honmarutei is a ramen shop specialized in Shio ramen (Salt flavored ramen). They're around 5 minutes walk away from the west exit.

They serve a sophisticated shio ramen (850 yen). The clear soup is light yet very rich in flavor of the broth. It is also topped with wonton (soft and juicy dumplings) which goes well with the soup and noodles.

AFURI

AFURI is a popular ramen shop in Tokyo where people often wait in line for a long time. But at Yokohama location on the B1F of a mall near the station, you don't usually need to wait!

Their signature menu is "Yuzu shio ramen" (980 yen) which consists of light broth soup, some toppings, and yuzu (a kind of citrus fruit) which gives a kick to the ramen. They also have vegan ramen for vegans and healthy eaters. English menu is also available.

Ichiran (一蘭)

Probability you know Ichiran as it is a world-famous ramen shop today. You can try their ramen in Yokohama too, located on the 2nd floor of a building that is just 2 minutes away from the west exit.

They specializes in Hakata style ramen, creamy tonkotsu (pork broth) soup and thin noodles. One of the secret of the deliciousness is the red sauce on the top, which is made from over 30 kinds of spices including red chili. When you mix the sauce with the rich and creamy soup, it will become more flavorful.
