Gyukatsu is a Japanese dish that consists of breaded, deep-fried beef cutlets. You may be familiar with tonkatsu, the pork equivalent of the dish that has been popular for a long time. Gyukatsu however is quite a novelty! Once a little-known dish, its popularity really exploded from 2015.
If you want to know what all the buzz is about, MOTOMURA is the place for you to go. We went ourselves to visit the restaurant that is possibly the most popular one in Tokyo for gyukatsu. It's not usual to see long queues in front of this joint!
How The Delicious Beef Cutlets Are Made At MOTOMURA
The raw slices of beef are first sprinkled with just the right amount of seasoning then coated with breadcumbs.
The pieces are then deep fried for approximately one minute, resulting in meat being brown and crispy on the outside and partially red inside.
The chef then cuts the pieces into bit-size slices.
How To Eat Your Gyukatsu
Once you receive your gyukatsu and its accompaniements, the fun part begins! The gyukatsu is served with some thinly sliced cabbage, potato salad, a miso soup, pickles and barley rice!
Placed in front of you is a small burner on which you grill your medium rare gyukatsu slice by slice.
Once the meat is cooked to your liking, you can add some wasabi on it and dip it in one of the two special sauces that comes with your order. Every bite is so delectable! For gyukatsu experience you won't forget, we highly recommend you go to MOTOMURA! You'll know then what all the fuss is about!
