Yamazaki Distillery: The Birthplace Of Japan's Finest World Famous Whisky!

Suntory Yamazaki Distillery located in Osaka prefecture is a popular tourist spot in the area. If you are a whisky lover, be sure to make it a place to visit while you are in the Osaka-Kyoto region. It is one of Japan's oldest and most reputable commercial distillery, and you can bye some of its famous whisky too. Here is more on the distillery museum.

Yamazaki Distillery

The Suntory Yamazaki Distillery opened in 1923. Insisde there is a collection of 7,000 bottles known as the "Whisky Libary".
The rows of beautifully lit up golden vintage bottles is for many the highlight of the visit. But there is also much more to learn here.
There is an exhibition about the history of Japanese whisky in which you will find historic items and video clips of the early period of whisky making in Japan. You'll learn about Shinjiro Torii and Masataka Taketsuru, two of the iconic figures of the Japanese whisky's history.


For a small charge, at the tasting counter on the first floor you can sample whiskies that include vintage and unblended ones from around the world! This is the perfect way to end your visit!

Gift Shop: Yamazaki Distillery's Reservation Whisky

Don't leave without getting yourself a souvenir! At the gift shop on the second floor, you'll find some of the Distillery's best whisky, some of which are exclusively available there. Yamazaki's single malt whisky is ranked among the top 3 percent of the world's best according to rating's aggregator Proof66.com. It has won many awards and is praised for having a distinct noble taste. Some of the most famous products of the Yamazaki Distillery are the following three brands but note that the distillery cannot guarantee their availability.
With a beautiful golden color, the 12 years aged whisky is said to have notes of sweet vanilla and fruits.
The 18 years aged whisky is a deep amber color and has notes of dried fruits with a cinnamon finish.
The 25 years aged whisky has a reddish-brown color and notes of marmalade and coffee.

The distillery is located at a 10 minute walk from the Stations.

Operating hours are from 10:00-16:45.
