Excelsior is a coffee chain that was established by Doutor Coffee in 1999. The basic concept was to create an Italian-style coffee house. The decor of the store is said to be modern Italian, and some of the menu items are also from Italian coffee and food culture (espresso, panini).
Regular coffees are 350 yen (medium size). Espressos are also available for 350 yen (medium).
The caffe latte is 390 yen (medium size), and you can get maple or almond caramel flavors too for 430 yen (medium size).
Good matcha latte (440 yen for medium size) that is lightly sweetened.
Various iced versions of the coffee drinks are available for about 400 yen. Most people in Japan choose iced drinks in the summer.
Perrier fruit drinks are available for 500 yen. A good choice for surviving the hot Japanese summer!
People come to Excelsior not just for the coffees but also for the cakes!
One of the classics here is the creamy peach cake roll (450 yen).
For a taste of Japan try this Japanese mikan orange and chocolate mousse cake (480 yen)! The chocolate and orange taste blend so well together. There is a nutty taste and texture to the bottom layer.
Another treat made with Japanese ingredients is the Meyer lemon eclair (360 yen). It has fruit juice from Saga Prefecture. The sweetness of the custard cream and the light acidity of the lemon are balanced perfectly.
Mont Blancs are also on the menu for 480 yen. They have a really nice custard cream and chestnut taste.
If you are a little hungry, Excelsior is also a good place for a light lunch.
Panini sandwiches are available for 450 to 480 yen. They include: cajun chicken, pork and coleslaw, tuna wasabi and perilla and a few others. Choose a sandwhich and you can get a salad and drink set for an extra 380 yen.
